Bashir was a member of the Global Future Councils on Advanced Materials and Advanced Energy Technologies at the World Economic Forum. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Award (King Prize) honoring inventors and the gifted; a member of the Rice Carbon Hub Carbon Leadership Board; and a member of the Hydrogen Council Coordination Committee.
Bashir was an academic visitor in the department of chemical engineering at Imperial College London. He received a B.S. in chemistry summa cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) working under the supervision of the 2023 Chemistry Nobel Prize recipient Prof. Moungi Bawendi on highly luminescent color selective quantum dots. He completed the Saudi Aramco Leadership Challenge and the Advanced Management and Leadership Program at Oxford University Said Business School.
