The $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE presented by Dollar General Literacy Foundation is a 42-month competition that launched on June 8, 2015.
The competition consists of 2 phases:
SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT & TESTING PHASE 1 (36 months)
Team registration is open June 8, 2015 until December 10, 2015.
12/2015 – Solution Development begins once registration has closed and continues for 12 months.
12/9/2016 – Interim submission deadline
3/2017 – Solution Development concludes and Semifinalist judging begins
4/2017 – Semifinalist teams announced
5/2017 – Field testing begins. Semifinalists’ solutions are deployed among low-literate participants for use over a 12-month period.
3/2018 – Finalist teams announced and selected to continue on.
5/2018 – Field testing ends and judging begins. Field Test results are analyzed to determine the winning team(s).
9/2018 – The winning team(s) will be announced and prizes awarded at an award event.
THE CITIES DEPLOYMENT PHASE 2 (6 months)
Upon awarding the Team Solutions phase, cities across the country will simultaneously launch their education and outreach campaigns encouraging low-literate residents to download and use any of the solutions that met the competition’s minimum performance benchmarks.
At month 42, the judging panel will determine the city that provided these solutions to the greatest percentage of their low-literate residents and will be awarded $1 Million.
